Parque Nacional Los Glaciares, El Calafate

4.8
Enjoy breathtaking views of some of the world's most spectacular ice fields at Parque Nacional Los Glaciares. The expansive national park, which shares a border with Chile, contains 47 glaciers, with 30 percent of its total area covered by ice. Thanks to well-developed trails and viewing platforms, you can see some of these glaciers up close, as the raw mechanics of nature drive the ice ever so slowly towards its destination. Don't miss the awe-inspiring Perito Moreno Glacier, where you're likely to hear thunderous crashes as chunks of the glacier break off and fall into the water. Using our international travel planner, El Calafate attractions like Parque Nacional Los Glaciares can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Don’t overpay for the expensive tours — just take a bus, pay the park entrance fee and see the glacier on your own (the hotels where you’ll be staying might be trying to sell these tours to you). It’s better to buy a bus ticket one day in advance to avoid queueing as there might be crowds at the station, especially during high season. While at the park, you can also buy a boat trip to see the glacier at the close proximity. But it’s not necessary, the good views are accessible from the walking trails.
  • Beautiful national park with amazing winding trails that go throughout and bring you very close to the glacier (about 50m). Entrance fee is about 13 USD per person, but definitely worth it ! One quick tip: don't rely on the distance and/or difficulty estimates for the trails. They take at least half the time advertised (if not less) and aren't nearly as hard as presented (challenging just meant that there were many steps on the trail). All in all, a fantastic experience!
