  • Definitely worth the visit. The Factory tours are interesting and shed light on a more little known aspect of Colonial life. The tasting paddle of beer at the end is worth every penny.  more »
  • My convict ancestor spent time at Cascades so it was quite an emotional visit for me. Well worth a visit.  more »
  • We did both Port Arthur and Cascades, and while everyone raves about Port Arthur (with good reason) Cascades is definitely worth a visit. As they say, it's the only convict site which tells the story of the female convicts. I highly recommend buying a ticket to the tour, as the self-guided brochure only scratches the surface. Our guide was informative and interesting, with lots of little anecdotes about what life was really like in this 'female factory'. It's a small site so you only need an hour, including the tour, to see everything, but well worth it.
  • Well done centre showing a harrowing bit of our history. The individual stories and the physical descriptions of the inmates brings a human touch. Sad that so much has been destroyed post prison closure but a great job to reconstruct it. It’s also on the route to the Cascade Brewery and is easily walkable from town.
