Bay of Fires Wines, Pipers River

#25 of 74 in Wineries in Tasmania
Must see · Winery / Vineyard · Hidden Gem · Food & Drink
From our Pinot Noir to our Pinot Gris, our wines are crafted to bring out the very best features of the distinctive Tasmanian terroir.

All our table wine comes from carefully hand-picked Tasmanian fruit, specially selected for quality and character. Each parcel is kept separate so that we can constantly assess it and capture its unique essence at precisely the right moment. And then, in only the finest oak available, we let nature work its magic. It’s no wonder Bay of Fires is the recipient of prominent and sort-after accolades.

The House of Arras is a true expression of its origin and maker - a marriage of exceptional cold climate Tasmanian vineyards and uncompromising sparkling winemaking techniques mastered over decades.

Ed Carr, House of Arras Master winemaker, is Australia's most awarded sparkling winemaker. He has long held the belief that Tasmania can, and should, produce exceptional sparkling wines equal to the world's best.

Our Cellar door is located on the Pipers River in the Tamar Valley wine region and is set in a modern, architecturally designed building with sweeping views over our vineyard. We are open for tastings and tours by appointment Thursday - Monday.

  • They might have been having an off day the day we went. Overall a very disappointing cellar door experience. As big fans of Arras we were excited to experience it, but the we were met with a rather uninspired host which left a bad taste. On an island renowned for fresh food, a reheated frozen pizza for $18 was a bit of a let down. Great wines and grounds but not a great experience.
  • Nice wine tasting ($5, refunded with purchase), friendly service (I think her name was Laurel?), and indoor and outdoor seating with a lovely view of the vineyard. After tasting (or skip the tasting if you already know what you like!), you can purchase a couple of glasses of wine and some nibbles to enjoy the view. We got a cheese platter with generous amounts of cheese, yummy pickled green tomatoes, and lovely poached pear (only an extra $3 for two cheeses, instead of just one selection).
