Built between 1850 and 1856, the museum is a testament to the empire's military victories and leaders. You can explore one of the world's largest collections of bronze cannons, which are arranged outside the museum. Enter the museum through the tomblike Hall of Generals. Four large halls house collections devoted to different periods of Austrian history. Do not miss the car in which the Archduke Francis Ferdinand was assassinated.     Excellent museum. Nice collection. Objects are situated in their time frame. It is much more than just a bunch of old weapons on showcase. You learn a lot about the history of Austria.  more »

    Fascinating exhibits, especially for those interested in first world war history. Many iconic displays. Descriptions in both English and German for most exhibits. Also has WW2 and more modern sections. Highly recommend.

    Fascinating building that carries the memory and the memorabilia of the outrageous ww1 and ww2. The car were Franz Ferdinand and his wife were driving in during when they were shot is also displayed here. The museum also has two sections on wars against the French and the Turks. Very friendly staff.
