A dramatic 50 m (160 ft) drop located in the heart of Jasper National Park, Maligne Canyon offers memorable views and diverse flora and fauna. Trickling waterfalls, nesting ravens and black swifts, underground stream outlets, and ancient fossils are all hidden amongst the verdant beauty. You can discover it all by walking along a series of trails and traversing four impressive bridges. As you hike through the unspoilt landscape, notice the unusual rock formations, carved out of the Palliser formation, a layer of limestone deposited by plankton some 365 million years ago. A visit to Maligne Canyon represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Jasper National Park trip itinerary site to plot your vacation.

  • Incredible hike during the winter. Follow the path along the canyon for fantastic views of the ice falls and the surrounding mountains. There are gates which late you get closer to the river and the ice falls (take at your own risk).Take the higher path on the way back for a beautiful view of Pyramid Mountain.
  • A beautiful place to visit . You can go for a hike crossing many bridges which has made it accessible, exploring the trials , spotting wildlife and just enjoying the picturesque beauty of this place . While hiking you come across many scenic and beautiful viewpoints . I went there during summer and there were people chilling by the river and enjoying the sun. Some spots are really serene and tranquil and you can just spend some time by yourself there . The falls are beautiful but some of the trials are quite steep . Overall this place is definitely worth a visit especially for those who enjoy hikes . The canyon can be viewed from the bridge and fenced areas. It's mostly accessible barring a few steep trials . You can visit with family and kids . A great way to explore some beautiful views out there.
