Castle Ruin Must See
Nestled high in the rocky mountain tops overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, the ruins of Saint Hilarion Castle feature crumbling walls, Byzantine ornaments, and 100 km (60 mi) views. Although the exact construction date is unknown, the castle and a former monastery are estimated to be about 1,000 years old. Serving as a royal home with economic units, stables, and military quarters, the site survived until the Venetian arrival in the 15th century, when it was dismantled. You'll discover dark, mysterious tunnels and preserved church elements here. Don't miss the arch overlooking the sea, which makes a great photo spot. • The fortress of iOS Hilarion is located in the Kirenia Ridge. The fort sits on a huge cliff. Built in the 7th century by the Bavalans, the Lulian people renovated and expanded it in the Crusader period. Its importance grows in the Venetian period. The fortress is built of three levels. Trails and steps are leading from level to level. Trees and vegetation add to the beauty of the place. The fortress was strategically important. From all levels and mainly from the second level and the third, great observations on a large part of the Northern Sea. The port and the city. The Citadel has many rooms and halls including a church building dating from a beautiful Byzantine period. On the second level cafeteria where you can drink a delicious and juicy lemonade from the surrounding area while sitting on the porch overlooking the landscape. Very, very recommended. We did it with a great local guide.

  • You go for the view, but it's not worth it with the kid. You can see the same view by the car by Beylerbeyi. 2 for lemonade rather than scenery. Make sure you go all the way to the section. Say no to the view for that lemonade and to the abana.

  • Nice place with beautiful view. Many and many stairs, but 20 minutes and you are at the top (faster walk). Nearly 700 m above sea level.
  • Web site says opens at 8am but when I got there opened at 9am.well worth the visit. Quite a hard climb but well worth it. Paths can be a bit slippery so take care. Some shade on way up but would recommend getting there early. I was only one there at 9am so nice and peaceful. Enjoy.
