Kolossi Castle, Limassol

3.9
The robust cubical Kolossi Castle represents a Gothic military structure of the Middle Ages, with a Luisignan coat of arms carved into its walls. Originally built around 1210, the exact edifice that you can see today was completed in 1454. Some of the 13th-century fragments are still at the site. Standing 21 m (69 ft) tall, the castle contains storerooms at the ground floor, a kitchen on the second floor, and living quarters in the upper section. At one time the complex also featured sugarcane production facilities. Look south to see a courtyard building and ruins of what's thought to have been a stable or storehouse. • Nothing special, just an empty castle and all ♂️ if you go by, you can stop, but purposefully go here not worth it. If all looked in Cyprus)

  • Already from the parking in front of us stands the image of the castle/tower in all glory. In the cashier we buy a ticket (€2.5) and you can take a brochure in Russian language. Having risen on a ladder we get in the first hall, on both parties there are rooms (here dark enough) we find a fireplace and windows with benches cut down in a thickness of walls. If you climb the spiral staircase, find ourselves in a similar room, but lighter. Fireplaces are already richer. More like a living room. The spiral staircase does not end and can be found on the roof. I do not know how previously built similar buildings. The thickness of the walls is impressive. The height of the building is amazing visible all the grounds! Great panoramic view. If you go down to the first hall, there is the darkest part of the castle

  • Not bad as far as castles go. Be aware you can't go round if you have a pushchair or wheelchair. Steps everywhere!
  • The castle is very well preserved. It is worth visiting to contemplate its architecture. It is empty inside. From Limassol you can go by bus (number 17), the bus can be taken at the old hospital station.
