Tucked up into a mountain, Agios Neophytos Monastery features frescoes, icons, and exhibits of religious items, like manuscripts, priestly garments, books, pottery, and maps. Founded by Cypriot monk and writer Neophytos in 1159, the monastery also includes a church built 200 years later that was dedicated to Virgin Mary. See the cave with Neophytos's cell, his rock-table, stone bed, and his grave. Don't miss the enclosure that he carved into the mountain, which contains Byzantine frescoes dating back to the 12th century. Agios Neophytos Monastery reviews
Had a lovely Boxing Day wander with my wife and mother in law at the monastery which is still active and contains a museum alongside lots of original carvings within a calming mountain setting. Worth the drive up for sure to take a break from the cities in Cyprus
Peaceful, high up in the hills, close to a cat sanctuary, spent a nice hour there. Church is very pretty
