Tucked up into a mountain, Agios Neophytos Monastery features frescoes, icons, and exhibits of religious items, like manuscripts, priestly garments, books, pottery, and maps. Founded by Cypriot monk and writer Neophytos in 1159, the monastery also includes a church built 200 years later that was dedicated to Virgin Mary. See the cave with Neophytos's cell, his rock-table, stone bed, and his grave. Don't miss the enclosure that he carved into the mountain, which contains Byzantine frescoes dating back to the 12th century. Приехали сюда в мае, почти никого. Сохранившиеся фрески на стенах старого монастыря. Горы, лики и покой more »Came here in May, almost no one. Preserved frescoes on the walls of the old monastery. Mountains, faces and peace
Exquisite setting in the top of a valley, almost hidden in the trees and backed by cliffs that house the original monastery. This is a serene and peaceful place on a scale that was quite surprising. Take a seat and rest your soul.......
A nice short outing from Paphos - we were looking for places to visit, as Paphos is quite limited. This is accessible by public transportation, though the buses do not run frequently enough, so we found ourselves there with time to kill. But it is worth a visit. The museum has some interesting artifacts, the complex is pretty, and the frescoes in the cave quite interesting, too.
