Starting off as a private collection of birds, Pafos Zoo grew into Cyprus's biggest zoo, housing 1,200 animals that represent 210 species from around the world. Nestled in a lush subtropical forest with lakes and ponds, the zoo features mammals, reptiles, and birds, including one of the largest collections of parrots and venomous snakes in Europe. See large and rare white lions, mandrills (the largest monkeys in the world), and flying foxes, which rank among the largest bats on the globe. Watch macaw and owl performances, and check out the natural history museum at the site, which presents preserved animal fossils and various minerals. We visited the zoo after reading a mixed response in other reviews . We went with a little bit of an open mind in thinking our entrance money ( that we had pre paid ) would go towards helping feed ani... more »
I feel that some animals are just suffering there. Also tourists have to pay 16,50 and locals 13 euros.I call this discrimination, not being fair with people.I wonder if by law is allowed to do this. Also what are the criteria that the front office lady decides who is tourist and who is not.Too expensive entrance. Also if you want to feed a few animals the prices are again too high. You will see animals in small cages ,some they look bored and sad. An elephant in a small space that clearly needs some activities so he feels better etc etc.
Absolutely shocking. The enclosures are tiny. They have an elephant which is kept on his own in an enclosure the size of someones back garden. Very sad to see the animals often being kept in isolation, with no partners... Most of the zoo consists of birds kept in cages. The animals all look miserable. In a nutshell, visiting this zoo is extremely depressing and deeply upsetting. It is like a prison for these poor animals. How anybody could enjoy going here is beyond me, it is so cruel. I cant understand how this place has 4+ star ratings, it is literally a prison camp.
