Pafos Zoo, Paphos

3.6
#1 of 16 in Parks in Paphos
Starting off as a private collection of birds, Pafos Zoo grew into Cyprus's biggest zoo, housing 1,200 animals that represent 210 species from around the world. Nestled in a lush subtropical forest with lakes and ponds, the zoo features mammals, reptiles, and birds, including one of the largest collections of parrots and venomous snakes in Europe. See large and rare white lions, mandrills (the largest monkeys in the world), and flying foxes, which rank among the largest bats on the globe. Watch macaw and owl performances, and check out the natural history museum at the site, which presents preserved animal fossils and various minerals. • The zoo is home to a lot of different magnificent birds, which is likely due to the fact it was a bird sanctuary before it was a zoo. It also houses some large animals such as Camels, crocodiles, a family of tigers, endangered white lions, other large cats, a rather funny elephant, monkeys, reptile house, gazelle, and a range of normal farm animals too. The star of the show for us came at the end of a fantastic parrot show when they bought out a 2 month old white lion cub, bred at the zoo as part of their successful breeding program. For an additional fee we got to spend some time with the white lion cub and interact with it. An experience we will all remember for the rest of our lives, it was amazing!
  • Visited Paphos Zoo April 2019 with 3 other adults. Very reasonable entrance price. We thought the cages were small for the birds and animals, but they all looked in good condition. Excellent, informative bird show, and a bonus at the end when a 7 week old white lion cub was bought in. My daughter fed the giraffe, but we didn't have enough time to go into the baby elephant enclosure. 2/3 eating places. A nice day out.
