Old Nicholas Church (Alte Nikolaikirche), Frankfurt

4.1
Relatively small in size but steeped in history, Old Nicholas Church (Alte Nikolaikirche) was once the church of city leaders and today serves as the home of the local Lutheran congregation. This double-aisle Early Gothic church was mentioned as early as the 13th century, but it is believed that the core of the structure is considerably older. The church is noted for its 47-bell harmonic carillon, Gothic roof gallery, and 14th-century entryway sculptures. Though the substructure of the church's iconic tower was constructed around 1240, the higher stories likely were added during a reconstruction in the 1440s. Throughout the summer months, the church hosts a variety of concerts; visit the official website to see exactly which special events you can attend during your stay. • Beautiful, as from the picture, recently restored classic German church. The story is intelligent and winding, like the whole river of life! Built before the middle of the 13th century as a Catholic cathedral. From the tower at the same time as the performance of church functions watched the behavior of the crowd at the market below, in the square, and the arrival of ships on the river. Universalism is medieval! Then the centuries passed, the tower was built, the church changed. Until the reformation came. After the Reformation, "Catholicism" was abolished, and the church had a warehouse and a storage facility. It was only in 1721 that the building again became a church, now a Lutheran church. From the inside looks very small, concise, but beautiful.
