Staedel Museum, Frankfurt

4.5
A Frankfurt native founded one of Germany's premier art collections, Staedel Museum, in 1815. Its 600 paintings, 600 sculptures, and more than 100,000 prints and sketches represent nearly 700 years of art. You'll find a variety of styles, schools, and techniques. Look for works by Botticelli, Van Eyck, Rembrandt, and other famous artists. Art history buffs may reach nirvana in the museum's library, which contains more than 100,000 books from different eras. The gift shop sells an astounding 6,000 prints and books. The onsite cafe offers city skyline views. • The Städel Museum is, as you can see on the images alone by the outside the absolute hammer. Must be seen.

  • When Maria Sybille Merian I've wondered about this great fine strokes, very delicate and natural detail. Admirable. Monnard and Manet were great pictures over their entire career to see. I was 2 weeks before the end of the exhibition there, the crowd was very large. UNFORTUNATELY IN THE SPECIAL EXHIBITIONS MAY BE PHOTOGRAPHED NEVER. This is very sad. There are museums where that good is permitted.

  • The Museum has a collection of enormous interest, nicely arranged in a beautiful building and not excessively large dimensions. It combines classical collection with impressive works of Rembrandt and fantastic collection of impressionists and German painters of the century XIX and XX, especially of members of the group "Brücke". The temporary exhibition which at that time was presenting work of two French painters: Matisse and other contemporary of such master, was very rich in content and quality with lots of information. The store and Café in very good taste. Highly recommended visit.

  • Wonderful fine arts museum on the "museum bank" of the river Main in the heart of Frankfurt. New and special exhibitions regularly. Audioguides in many languages, and regularly scheduled guided tours of the current special exhibitions, either German or English. Städel Museum is very popular among Frankfurt inhabitants, so some Saturday and Sundays are crowded, especially when the special exhibits are new. The Städel is one of several outstanding Frankfurt museums. If you are staying on in Frankfurt, the Museumskarte is a bargain. After paying for this annual ticket, access to all Frankfurt museums is available at no additional entrance fee
  • Security guard blocks my way back to the entry and has to be reassured by his colleague, just because I returned to the cash counter to check if I’d got a discount for my Frankfurt card. I had no idea there was so much prejudice against asking a question. I didn’t have my coat with me it was already in the cloak room, also a civil question is better than body blocking someone you know Städel.
  • I've been here repeatedly and loved every display I've seen so far!!! Fortunately I'm retired so I've been able to see most of the displays without the crowds, but the redhead and I have waited until the last weekend to see some of the more memorable visits ... do yourself a favor and go when it's not busy!!!
  • The Städel is running a grand Matisse/Bonnard Exhibition at the moment. The standing exhibits run from Classic to Impressionist and Expressionist and a lot in between. The restaurant is upscale, the cafe cozy and the bookstore/souvenir shop has something for everyone including the youngest!
  • This is a very nice museum with a great collection and temporal exibitions like the Matisse Bonnard which I visited.
