You can access Drachenfels, a 321 m (1,053 ft) hill, by footpath or a small tourist train. As you wind your way up, look for the neo-Gothic castle, Schloss Drachenburg, built in 1882. A ruined castle at the summit--which requires a short but steep walk after exiting the train--was built between 1138 and 1167. Admire the views of the Rhine River and city of Bonn, then spend time watching boats travel up and down the river. Stop at the restaurant or snack bar to refuel before making your way back down. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Koenigswinter holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Drachenfels and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

In the town of Koenigswinter come for the oldest in Germany jagged railway, the fortress of Drahenfels and the castle of Drachenburg. Destroyed fortress Drahenfels is on top of the mountain, and if from the fortress, according to the legend of the destroyed dragon, almost nothing is left, the views opening from the observation deck near the fortress, just gorgeous! You can go upstairs with the help of the same railway. The trip will appeal to both adults and children (one-way ticket cost 8 euros, there back 10 euros). But it is better to go down on foot. In addition to the fact that the walk itself will be a good warm-up, you can see the majestic redwoods.View original

We rode a funicular to get to Drachenfels, which in itself was a fun experience. Besides the structure, the grounds are well maintained. Restrooms are available and there is a cafe in the older part of the castle ruins. You can also get a 360 degree view of Bonn and the Rhine river.

Nice hiking trail, and a breathtaking view from the top. The ruins of the castle are ok, the castle itself is nice but something wow, it's more nicer outside where you can see the valley and enjoy the nature. Highly recommended.
