Nymphenburg Palace, Munich

4.5
While millions of tourists flock to the city for its world-famous beer festival, few find their way to the tranquil Nymphenburg Palace. Renowned architect Agostino Barelli designed this sprawling, 200 hectare (490 acre) garden oasis, which was completed in 1675. The palace once served as the summer residence of Bavarian kings. The facade was redesigned in the French Baroque style in 1716, and now is about 700 m (2,300 ft) wide. You can visit both the gardens and their several museums. The most notable one, inside the former royal stables, contains one of the biggest horse carriage collections in Europe. Regular guided tours aren't available, but you can pick up an informative audio guide at the site's entrance. • I envy the people of Munich. They can walk in this park for days, ride a bike, lie around. Everything is beautiful, the forest, the forest paths, the largest apple strudel, wonderful castle. And when the sun is shining, it's holiday.

  • At the turn of a grey and rainy morning, one enters a large architectural cube surrounded by rather large wings. The gallery of beauties of Louis I of Bavaria - the father of Louis II? - is a delight. We like to imagine the character of all these women, their names appear at the bottom of the frames, a plunge into the era thanks to these portraits.

  • Very cool place to visit on your trip to Munich. Fairly accessible by public transport (albeit a slight walk) and the gardens are beautiful. There is also a botanical garden that has an entry fee if you are interested. Plenty of benches along the park so a very nice place to have a snack or relax. Quite a few locals exercising through the park too. We saw some fish in the lakes and there is a gondola ride available too.
  • Take a walk around, look inside the lake , go into the castle, pose at various spots for pictures. You will have a time of your life. Definitely a tourist location
