Burg Eltz, Wierschem

Owned by the same family who began its construction nearly 850 years ago, Burg Eltz is one of the best-preserved castles in Germany. The ornate, fairy tale-like fortress sits atop a 70 m (230 ft) rock outcropping. It's built of imposing stone walls and topped with colorful, spire-like roofs. You can explore more than 100 different rooms and courtyards, including the family quarters still used today. Climb to the other sections of the structure to see sweeping views of the forested hills and river valleys. Check the website for special events and guided tours. • The location, architecture and the environment makes this Castle a unique jewel. Highly recommended make a tour inside her or simply walk around your yard and surrounding area and soak up the atmosphere. You can always do a one-hour trip from the Landhotel Ringelsteiner Mühle restaurant beside the river or simply Park and touring the 15 minutes that you separate from the Castle.

  • So much history and fun facts. It's just amazing that it was not destroyed during world war and is still owned by 33rd generation of Germany family. Loved how you can have the hill view and then though can climb down to the castle. The tour guide was very helpful explaining the history about the castle in English. I would definitely recommend it to anyone if they can while traveling around this area. Worth the money and time.
  • We had a great tour of this ancient place. Our guide answered all our questions. The treasury room was very interesting as well. There's a snack bar on the main level and a restaurant on the lower level ( which we didn't see until after we had eaten at the snack bar). The hot dog was satisfying though. The hike there was good. Coming back was up hill and a little more tiring. But the trails are well maintained. You can take the shuttle back if you prefer, for a few €. A very good day. I would recommend going.
  • We went once with some family and had a blast! The tour guide was funny and knew what he was talking about. We went back a second time with more family and the tour guide we had was very rude, didn't tell us much information about the place, and was short with us on several occasions. It's a beautiful place and loved the hike up/down from the parking lot.
  • This was an excellent experience and a lovely castle. The drive to the location is easy with a GPS and the parking is cheap. The Ali down to the castle isn’t to bad but can be hard on your knees, the walk back seems impossible haha. But they offer a shuttle service which cost 2Euro a person (worth it). The castle itself is beautiful and they even have small cafes that offer a good selection of hot and cold meals at fair prices.
  • Awesome castle with really great tour. The guides were great and very knowledgeable. There are a few stairs and it is probably not very wheelchair friendly but the views are great.
