Burg Eltz, Wierschem

Owned by the same family who began its construction nearly 850 years ago, Burg Eltz is one of the best-preserved castles in Germany. The ornate, fairy tale-like fortress sits atop a 70 m (230 ft) rock outcropping. It's built of imposing stone walls and topped with colorful, spire-like roofs. You can explore more than 100 different rooms and courtyards, including the family quarters still used today. Climb to the other sections of the structure to see sweeping views of the forested hills and river valleys. Check the website for special events and guided tours. • We have made ourselves this morning early on the way and followed the trail from the station Moselkern was to create well signposted and along well after about 80 minutes over meadows and through the Woods almost always on the Eltzbach. Once there we were, on long waiting times because others spoke of long waits. But perhaps because it is still early in the day, 10:00 and a day of the week was, we were equal without waiting on it." The next leadership is in 10 minutes,"said the friendly cashier. The guide was very informative about the family history of the Castle, you had to look at rest and enough time. After the tour we still the Treasury viewed us, there are really impressive stuff. Finally still a drink near the Castle own snack 3 drinks together we found still reasonable €7.50. Then it went back on foot station Moselkern. It was a nice day trip for us.

  • Burg Eltz is one of the places everyone should check out. At least if you're into castles and nature. We took the walk to the castle and it was fairly easy and pretty. Something like 1,3km. We also wa...  more »
  • Arriving at the scene is paid parking in the amount of EUR 2. Access to the castle is done on foot or with a bus (2 euro per piece per person). On the way we went on foot, is a decide in the middle of the forest. Getting there has a souvenirs shop, restaurant and toilets. The visitation at the castle is 10 euros. On the way back we went to the bus and the driver, super grumpy, didn't like that I paid with a lot of coins.

  • This was fun! Really beautiful. Great history. The castle has stayed in the same family...cool piece of history. The walk was pretty easy from the parking area. The path is wide enough that if you need to stop and take a break you could do so, without being in the way. Really pretty trek into the castle and a much better view of the castle. (I think) Our tour guide was awesome. He was professional and pleasant. (The last photo is the view from walking the trail from parking.)
  • Very beautiful castle in the middle of a valley which you can only reach by foot... When you walk around the bend and get a first glimpse of the Castle it's a mesmerising sight to behold. We took a different path down a steep decent but you better can follow the footpaths which lead you to the front gate. Sadly it isn't opened during the winter months but just to see it from the outside was good enough for us... Enjoy!!
  • Worth a visit but don't think of it as a worthy day trip. The area around is nice for hiking and provides some nice hiking trails. The story of the castle itself is interesting and there are quite a lot of authentic relics. I did enjoy my visit but only for two hours or so
  • Amazing place. I love a good castle and this one did not disappoint! Did the tour in German just stand next to a German and say “what did he say?” Germans love impromptu translations.
  • Eltz Castle is absolutely stunning. The way from the parking spot to the castle is beautiful and get's even better when you have your first glance at the castle. The castle itself isn't too big, but it's definitely worth paying €10 for a visit and guided tour (also in English). Our guide could tell a lot about the history of the castle, in a way that is doesn't feel like she's done it a million times before.
