Würzburg Residence, Wurzburg

4.6
See the world's largest ceiling fresco at Würzburg Residence, the majestic residence of the prince-bishops of Würzburg. Constructed in the early 18th century, the palace combines aspects of French chateau and Viennese Baroque architecture. The fresco is above the palace's grand royal staircase. You can wander through the Imperial Hall with its stucco sculptures, colorful murals, and gold ornamentation. Although you must pay to enter the palace, you can roam the tranquil residence gardens free of charge. This site is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. • I dare say that is better than the Palace of Versailles. From the outside looks magnificent, but only after the inside is breathtaking. Each of the parts, starting from the main staircase of the world's largest painting plafonowym in the green room, is a small work of art. In spite of the unspeakable magnificence everything goes perfectly, providing an unforgettable experience. In the Palace shooting is prohibited, so you can almost move at the time.

  • The residence offers interesting guided tours for groups by the Museum. Especially the courtyard garden is very nice.

  • Participating in the tour with someone who understands the English Department of Germany once recommended (hours prior confirmed on the website it is better) put a personal tour and can listen to explanations on the frescoes, very interesting, and into the room without talking.

  • We walked here twice from our hotel near the river. Both times we never went inside the Baroque residence (actually a palace) and instead strolled around the awesome gardens. Also walked along the top and outside of the impressive old city wall at east edge of the gardens. There is a nice fountain on the west side of the residence. Overall it was very enjoyable and recommended for Wurzburg tourists.
  • Really impressive palace. The guides are great and are a must when you go there. Add a lot of interesting facts without making it a boring history class full of dates - however if you ask they have it all at hand :) some of the ornaments are extraordinary and they make huge rooms appear cosy. All that is complemented by the nice park area outside.
  • The exhibition is in impeccable condition and is definitely worth a visit. The residence will probably be busy with groups of tourists. It is recommended to take a visit as part of a guided tour to take the most out of the experience. Groups are well managed inside the exhibition area to ensure steady flow of guests and to leave enough time in each room to take a look at everything. Do take your time to walk around in the garden, too!
  • This place for a definitely worth a visit if you're a tourist or new in town. The building and it's rooms are still in a great condition, also offering great art to look at. Tours in English are frequently offered.
  • As you walk through the exquisite garden you can't help but notice the intentionally alternating height of the flowers and the feeling of perfect balance. Inside is quite ornate. The ceiling is a combination of painting and sculpture. I was fascinated by a moving carousel projected onto the wall. The security guard sat beside it so I thought twice about taking a photo. It is worth seeing.
