Würzburg Residence, Wurzburg

4.6
See the world's largest ceiling fresco at Würzburg Residence, the majestic residence of the prince-bishops of Würzburg. Constructed in the early 18th century, the palace combines aspects of French chateau and Viennese Baroque architecture. The fresco is above the palace's grand royal staircase. You can wander through the Imperial Hall with its stucco sculptures, colorful murals, and gold ornamentation. Although you must pay to enter the palace, you can roam the tranquil residence gardens free of charge. This site is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. • An absolute highlight in Würzburg. Of particular interest is the documentary about the destruction of 16 March and the lengthy reconstruction of near-impossible or costly restoration. Necessarily join a tour, because only so visit the State rooms is possible. Also visit the garden anyway.

  • Curate, flawless, well preserved, immerse yourself in the gardens by the gorgeous flowers, obligatory, not to be missed

  • For some mysterious reason, here are not allowed to take pictures. See especially nothing other than the process of restoration. The Castle and the town was completely destroyed by British aircraft. So you go on novodelu for €7.5 and "no photo please".

  • It's a beautiful residence but very few rooms are open to public. Also information about art and history are poor inside the building. They entrance ticket is quite high compared to what the residence can offer. The garden is free and very nice.
  • Nice guided tour already included at the ticket price. Rich of details and history, with a lovely garden and a nice gift shop. Worth the visit.
  • Astonishing palace! Remember to visit the church and garden as well (they are free of charge, while the resident is 7.5 euros per adult). However, it’s worth the price
  • Our guide had very good English and gave interesting stories about the residence. The building is beautiful and has several original rooms as well as ones that are expertly reconstructed.
  • The Bishop’s Residence in Würzburg was just gorgeous. Amazing palace with lovely furnishings. This beautiful residence sits looking down in Würzburg. We took a tour thru the Palace and learned about the history of its occupants.
