Würzburg Residence, Wurzburg

4.7
See the world's largest ceiling fresco at Würzburg Residence, the majestic residence of the prince-bishops of Würzburg. Constructed in the early 18th century, the palace combines aspects of French chateau and Viennese Baroque architecture. The fresco is above the palace's grand royal staircase. You can wander through the Imperial Hall with its stucco sculptures, colorful murals, and gold ornamentation. Although you must pay to enter the palace, you can roam the tranquil residence gardens free of charge. This site is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. • An absolute highlight in Würzburg. Of particular interest is the documentary about the destruction of 16 March and the lengthy reconstruction of near-impossible or costly restoration. Necessarily join a tour, because only so visit the State rooms is possible. Also visit the garden anyway.

  • Curate, flawless, well preserved, immerse yourself in the gardens by the gorgeous flowers, obligatory, not to be missed

  • For some mysterious reason, here are not allowed to take pictures. See especially nothing other than the process of restoration. The Castle and the town was completely destroyed by British aircraft. So you go on novodelu for €7.5 and "no photo please".

  • The heart of Würzburg. With all it's glory, surrounded by it's wonderful park, direct view at the castle. And yet, wonderful to look at all by itself. If you can manage, take the tour through the Residence, you won't regret it.
  • This palace is a great example of baroque architecture. Not to be missed if you're in the area. Parking right in front.
  • The grounds are really nice. Inside, only a few rooms have been restored. Not much to see.
  • We walked here twice from our hotel near the river. Both times we never went inside the Baroque residence (actually a palace) and instead strolled around the awesome gardens. Also walked along the top and outside of the impressive old city wall at east edge of the gardens. There is a nice fountain on the west side of the residence. Overall it was very enjoyable and recommended for Wurzburg tourists.
  • Nice place, entrance fee includes a free guided tour (happen regular, several times a day also in English). There's also a nice garden (no fees).
