Parthasarathy Temple, Chennai

4.7
One of the oldest places of worship in the city, Parthasarathy Temple features intricate architecture that makes it one of the area's top attractions. Dating from the 8th century, the temple pays tribute to the Hindu god Krishna. The distinctive pyramid-like appearance is complemented with detailed carvings and colonnades, constructed during later, 16th-century add-on projects. Inside, you'll find five shrines, each dedicated to one of Lord Vishnu's forms. The temple regularly hosts festivals, prayers, and events, many of which have been held here for centuries. • In my mind, India is a magical place that can change your life. On my most recent visit, I spent an hour at Sri Parthasarathy to watch a local wedding, listen to some music and meditate to the readings of the Hindu texts. I found it very rewarding. I felt, as a non-Hindu, privileged to get to enter and spend time at the temple and take some photos. I really enjoyed it and was so glad I got to go. Cows, rituals, the architecture is just amazing to behold. I did not take enough photos
  • Another wonderful temple of South India built in Dravidian style of architecture. Located in the elite area of the colonial Madras. Sad that there is no shoe stand, hand and leg wash area. The entrance was filthy. Sad that all the money that is collected in temples does not go to maintain the surroundings clean. The deities are ornamented. Wish someday we get darshan without the paraphernalia. Must visit temple
