Touch a piece of ancient Jewish history among scores of devoted worshippers at Western Wall, built by King Herod in 19 BCE. The structure serves as an important landmark to modern Jews, who consider it a holy prayer site. Many visitors slip handwritten notes into the cracks in the wall, believing that prayers requested in this manner receive special consideration. Wear modest clothing here, covering your shoulders and knees out of respect for the site and the worshippers who come to pray there. PutWestern Wall into our Jerusalem holiday site and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

Very surreal place. Awesome to see the importance of this place. I like to visit mostly at night. Many people travel from far away to visit and I would highly recommend doing so!
More head bangers than an Iron Maiden concert! Seriously though, a very interesting stop as you make your way through the Old City. You will get some dirty looks...just be quiet and respectful. Notice the thousands of little notes tucked into crevices!
