Unlike most buildings in the area, Asakusa Shrine survived the Tokyo air raids in 1945 and remained one of the most popular Shinto shrines in the city. Built in 1649, the temple features the gongen-zukuri architectural style, in which the worship hall and the main sanctuary form a shape resembling the letter H. The temple, also called the "Shrine of the Three Gods," was designated an Important Cultural Property in 1951 due to its historic and cultural importance.
