Asakusa Shrine, Asakusa

4.3
#7 of 1,728 in Historic Sites in Tokyo
Unlike most buildings in the area, Asakusa Shrine survived the Tokyo air raids in 1945 and remained one of the most popular Shinto shrines in the city. Built in 1649, the temple features the gongen-zukuri architectural style, in which the worship hall and the main sanctuary form a shape resembling the letter H. The temple, also called the "Shrine of the Three Gods," was designated an Important Cultural Property in 1951 due to its historic and cultural importance. • Lovely place to visit in Asakusa. Beautiful shrines and nice architectures. Must visit place if you have 1 day to look see when in Tokyo.
  • I visited Asakusa Shrine around 6am and it was a very meditative experience to watch the place yet so quiet because the shops are still closed and only the passersby and people praying were seen. I was also amazed at how meticulously the incense holder was cleaned and shined.
