Head to Koyasan Danjo Garan for a peaceful atmosphere in the midst of tall shady trees. Established in 816 CE, the shrine features about 20 temples, mostly reconstructions of the original buildings. Taking almost 70 years to complete from 816 CE, the complex’s oldest building, the great pagoda, has been destroyed five times, mostly by lightning strikes. Also find Kondo, which has been rebuilt six times due to being destroyed by fire during its history. It dates back to 819 CE and is used to host religious ceremonies. • We wandered around the surroundings. It was a thoroughly enchanting experience. The whole place showcases the majesty of both Japanese nature, traditions and history. The entire place is like a giant bonsai garden. I couldn’t stop taking pictures
  • Danjo Garan is a sacred complex and one of the most important area in Koyasan. Literally it means "garden for monks". I came here at a perfect time for fall foliage color in late October 2016. Entering the compkex from jabara michi was an amazing experience. It is lined with tall cedar, japanese rowan and maple trees with red color foliage along the way. The complex has some important cultural heritage wooden buildings. You will encounter the real japanese world in this place.
