Visit Yamato Museum to learn about the "history of Kure"--the modern Japanese history after the Meiji Era--as well as Japan's shipbuilding technology and iron industry. Opened in 2005, the museum's pride remains its 1/10 scale model of the battleship Yamato. Head further along to see other artifacts like a Zero fighter plane Type 62, manned World War II torpedoes and suicide crafts, and a midget submersible research vehicle of the Imperial Japanese Navy. The parking lot usually has enough space for visitors. Take a look at our Kure road trip website to schedule your visit to Yamato Museum and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

Easy accessible by JR train 30 min from Hiroshima. Nice museum and giftshop but very limited english
I was surprised to find this so interesting, as I’m not so into warships, but this museum was just as much about local history, which was really informative and a good accompaniment to the Hiroshima memorials. They have a great app with English, Chinese and Korean audio commentary, a well-stocked gift shop, and friendly, helpful staff.
