Akan Lake, Kushiro

4.0
Formed by volcanic activities thousands of years ago, Akan Lake plays home to an unusual species of native algae that resemble large green spheres. Part of a national park, the lake draws plenty of visitors thanks to the waterside spa facilities at the nearby resort town of Akankohan. Hike around the lake on the network of walking trails to find several natural oddities, including bubbling mud pools. Alternatively, you can hop aboard a local boat tour to see the lake and the surrounding area from a different perspective. • We stayed at the New Akan Hotel. We woke up early to catch the sunrise. We had a short walk around the Bokke trail beside the hotel.  more »

  • A pretty lake where you can enjoy the lake view and walking along the hot spring street. Of course, the hot spring is totally worth it! In summer time, the sightseeing boat is available, and in winter time you may want to do fishing and ice activities.
  • The town here is very small and as 1 convenience store and a couple of Japanese restaurants. The small shopping area is dominated by handcrafted souvenir shops. There is very little to do in the town and can easily be seen in 1 and 1/2 hours.
