Take the easy hike up the quaint cobbled steps of Daimonzaka. The 600 m (1,968.5 ft) path leads you through a corridor of old, well-established cedar trees, all the way from the valley floor to the shrine complex above. Soak up the serene atmosphere from the peaceful trail, and witness the "husband and wife" cedars at the top of the slope, with their roots entwined. Keep your eyes peeled for the picturesque Nachi falls, visible from the top of the trail. • Daimonzaka is popular because it is easy to experience Kumano Kodo. This slope was the road to Kumano Nachi Taisha, and it was a pilgrimage road with the atmosphere of the large cedar tree and the cobblestone road on both sides. After visiting Kumano Hongu Taisha, we went to Kumano Nachi Taisha. There was a big parking lot a little before entering Daimonzaka, and i parked a car there and entered this slope. Around the exit of the parking lot on the way to Daimonzaka, i think the eight-crow is on the edge, nadeshiko Japan monument was also there.

  • We walked from Daimonzaka to Kumano Nachi Taisha. The cobblestone and the stone step remain, and there is a old road-likeness. There seems to be 267 steps of the stone step, and it is almost a climbing road. After it became a World Heritage Site, local people were able to walk by wiping the moss of the cobblestone. However, because the stone steps are rough made in old times, it is said that it is slippery on a rainy day. I think that it is good to walk with firm sneakers or trekking shoes because the approach in front of Nachi Daitaki is a rough stone step, too. It was a short distance of about 30 minutes, but it was hard because I walked on a sunny day when the remaining heat was severe. There are trees on the old road, but the stairs of the Nachi Taisha approach are close to 470 steps, and it is painful because direct sunlight hits. Most of the roads are stairs, so be sure to bring water and climb on hot days.
