Nagasaki Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims
Reflect on the horrors of war at Nagasaki Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims, a monument constructed as a place to remember and pray for those killed in the atomic bombings of 1945. Take in the stark, symbolic architecture of the hall, designed by Akira Kuryu and built from 2000 to 2002. Walk through the 12 pillars of light, symbolic of the hope for peace, and visit the lower and upper levels to view sobering photos, memoirs, and personal accounts regarding the appalling event. After dark, fiber optic lights shine on a body of water, commemorating those who perished. This place is definitely worth visiting. Very informative, touching and unique. Even if you have been to the museum in Hiroshima this one is very different and worth a visit. You could spend an entire day in there reading and watching videos.
