Gokayama, Nanto

At Gokayama, see how the area's traditional gasshō-zukuri houses found their way onto the World Heritage List. Not a single nail was used in construction of these three- to four-story houses; the style of minka (residents for non-samurai castes) developed during the Edo period, and today people continue to live in them. Steep roofs at 60-degree angles add a special charm and prevent snow from building up. During summer, artists from all around the world gather for the World Drama Festival in the picturesque scenery. Although relatively noncommercialized and slow-paced, the area does offer a souvenir shop and cafe. Enjoy the fresh air and mountain landscape, which in winter has an especially magical ambiance. • It takes about an hour to be swayed by a World Heritage bus from Takaoka. It is Gokayama together in the Aikura district and the Suganuma district. It is a peaceful village dotted with palm-built buildings. Shirakawa-go is a combination of palms, but it is smaller than Shirakawa-go and has few tourists, so it is recommended.

  • I didn't know much about Gokayama, but I enjoyed it for half a day. The village of Aikura's Goshozo was able to take a beautiful picture from the high ground of about five minutes on foot. In the village of Japanese paper, you can experience making Japanese paper, and anyone can make postcards without any mistakes. If you want to see the inside of the joint palm, go to murakami family. The prison hut is the size of about two tatami mats, there is a hole for the meal putting, and the inside is fun to peep. We had lunch on the way at a Japanese restaurant called Takachiyo. There is also a normal katsudon, but the bear and wild boar that the husband has killed are tasteful and delicious. I went there by car, so I was able to go around. It is not known how much public transportised.
