At Osaka Museum of Housing and Living, see how the city's lifestyle and housing developed during different time periods. The museum draws scores of tourists with its life-sized street scene reproduction from the Edo Period (1603-1867). In addition to this highlight, you can also find a scale model of the city during the Edo times, replete with painstaking details. Don a kimono (offered by the museum for a small fee) and witness the street's simulated transition between day and night. Inspect all the facilities, such as the meeting hall, sento (public bath), and drugstores, which will enhance your appreciation for Japan's architectural solutions and the need for practical minimalism. Osaka Museum of Housing and Living Reviews
It’s too small a museum and the air inside is pretty stale at the new exhibition area where we have to pay an additional of 200yen. Visit if only you have additional time to spare. more »
You may take pictures inside the museum. There are 3 sections if I am not mistaken. Use Osaka Amazing Pass to get in there. Just a few hundred meters away from the exit train station. more »
Entrance is included with an Osaka Amazing Pass if you have it. It's not too expensive of an entrance fee either. Before you go in, you have to put your bags inside coin lockers and deposit 100 yen each. You get your 100 yen back when you retrieve your items. Inside, there is a small town built to resemble an older Japan. A lot of rooms you can actually go inside and look around. An interesting place to stop by and check out how the area around Osaka developed since the olden times.
This place is worth your time. Very good in fact. I am impressed with all the musuems in Japan. This in particular has olden japan village inside and you can rent kimono too. Very educational. 5 stars.
