Former Hokkaido Government Office Building, Sapporo

4.0
Featuring a red brick construction and central dome, Former Hokkaido Government Office Building remains one of the country's rare examples of Neo-Baroque architecture. The historic landmark boasts a distinctive appearance based on government buildings from the American state of Massachusetts. Built in 1888 and rebuilt in 1911, the structure features a colorful flower garden, arched windows, block rooftops, and multiple protruding chimneys. Head inside to check out a small museum on the second floor, home to a collection of artifacts and displays chronicling the history of the island and the city. Keep in mind that many of the exhibit descriptions inside the building do not have English translations. • It was a city of Hokkaido eavesdropping offices and was used since the time of hokkaido's pioneering eavesdropping. It is now used as an exhibition hall and is a popular tourist attraction. The old building itself is also a beautiful place to mingle with the surrounding gardens. The room was free and there were many exhibition spaces inside, but there was very little Korean explanation. It's a building with a long history, as the squeak yin sounds you hear every time you walk, so it's a building that's more old-fashioned than modern. If you're visiting Sapporo, it's a good place to stay.

  • I had never visited Sapporo before, but i never saw it from a distance. It's the first time in 10 years, buildings, exhibits, northern territories, etc. I hope that more people will visit and reaffirm their history, such as the looting of their territory by fire-fire thieves, and the soldiers and civilians who died fighting to defend them.

  • It is pretty good, free tour of the building. Most exhibits only have descriptions in Japanese tho.
  • It's nice of Hokkaido government still open to public, however, the building itself has been worn out, if they can renovation or maybe charge for entry.
