Walk through the open air museum of Historical Village of Hokkaido (Kaitaku-no Mura) to see a range of historical eras brought to life. Divided into four different sections--a town, a fishing village, a farming village, and a mountain village--the museum collects 60 different buildings from across the region to show the developments in architecture and lifestyle that have occurred since the mid-19th century. Take the horse-drawn trolley down the main street, stopping off to explore the old stone and wood buildings, decked out with artifacts, tools, and art related to a given period and placed in situ. Historical Village of Hokkaido (Kaitaku-no Mura) is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Sapporo Edition.

  • I visited here for the first time in several years. If there is a place that is somewhat clean, there is also a place that is aging. In Sapporo, I visit for a fourth-year social science study. There is also an old post office, a carriage, or an old play corner, so if you go without expectation, it might be a place that you think was unexpectedly good. It is close to the next Ichiebetsu in the corner of Sapporo. It is about 10 minutes by bus from Shin-Sapporo Station. If you have more time to stay in Shin-Sapporo, please put it in one of the candidates!

  • Great experience to see an old time village the way it was when there was a community. The attention to detail given in preserving this village is incredible. The buildings are very grand and the architecture is clearly from Western influence. It takes around 2 hours to see the whole town. There's an entrance offer with the Hokkaido Museum as well, it's a good opportunity to see both sites in the same day.
  • Although this was out of the way and far from the city, it was a nice place to see how the Japanese worked and lived before. There are many types of architecture that you can enter and have a glimpse of the past. We went in late December and it was covered in snow (which the kids loved). They can lend you snow boots too if you didn't bring. It's a huge area (one that we didn't get to explore all the way through).
