Hida Minzoka Mura Folk Village (Hida no Sato)
Wander among historic farmhouses and homes at Hida Minzoka Mura Folk Village (Hida no Sato), an open-air museum preserving a range of buildings and architectural styles from the nation's rugged mountain regions. The grounds of the museum contain nearly 30 structures, including numerous examples of rural constructions with distinctive thatched roofs. Within these buildings, moved here from around the surrounding countryside, you can observe lavish wooden paneling and low ceilings. As you explore the wooded grounds nestled among the lush hills, you'll learn about the region's rural way of life through the artifacts and decorations present in each house, some of which date back nearly five centuries. I dropped in here briefly. It's easy to visit with the car park just down a short hill from the entrance. There weren't many people about and I just wandered around the lake to see the view. It was... more »

Absolutely love how the japanese people run museums. You can touch everything in the houses and explore like you are literally visiting real live houses unlike many where they shield and covers all... more »

A great place to walk around and explore. You can see several kinds of buildings, from housing and storage barns, to workshop areas. There are numerous signs and boards explaining what kind of work was done in each place, and what life was like. The price is pretty reasonable, but I do have one complaint. Due to our visiting in winter, more than half of the buildings and paths were closed off, but we still had to pay the full price.

Nice glimpse of Japan's lifestyle of old. Especially for those who wants to see bits and pieces of old villages, with slight history / explanation on each houses (like carpentry, silkworm processing etcs). Don't expect some in depth learning or such however. We went in winter so really, great atmosphere and pretty place to take pictures.
