Dating back to the second century, Roman Amphitheater speaks to the period of Roman rule over Amman, when the city was known as Philadelphia. The construction of the 6,000-seat amphitheater into the hillside at a steep angle kept the sun off spectators and created excellent acoustics, which enabled audience members even at the top seat to hear people in the arena. Today the space, which is located in the heart of downtown, is open to the public and hosts large cultural festivals. Visit the small museum on premises for more information on the site's construction and history. Roman Amphitheater Reviews
With not many attractions around Amman, definitely a must see. Very nice to walk down the Citadel. I'd say you get better photos of the Amphitheater from the Citadel before 3pm.. otherwise you won't..... more »
You can’t miss this 5000-seat theater carved into the side of a hill in downtown Amman, not far from the Citadel. The restored structure dates to the reign of the Roman Emperor Anteniousonius Pius... more »
Must see in Amman. Peaceful Beautiful Historic And filled with greatness 2020: Still one of the best places to visit in Amman. Middle of downtown. Old and new mix. Beautiful. Peaceful. And just pure joy being there. Make sure to visit the two museums at the Roman theater, they are very simple and small bit still very cute and nice. Ticket price .25 for Jordanians and I think 3 for foreigners. The only cons to me is, sometimes there will be some not too nice of people around. But nothing that can’t be handled.
Absolutely amazing to behold. Climb up and enjoy. Also a great little museum that you should not pass is on the grounds. All included in the Jordan Pass, or not very expensive if you want to do it separately. Stunning and historical. Definitely go!
