You'll find Livraria Lello fascinating even if you're not into books. A bookstore with loads of character not found in malls, this building from the early 20th century features Neo-Gothic details that add a punch of magic to the usual shopping experience. "Harry Potter" author JK Rowling, who lived in Porto in the 1990s, allegedly used one of the shop's twisting stairways for inspiration. Stop by and you might be inspired to read--or write--something too. Livraria Lello Reviews
I liked the winding staircase but, did not like it that I had to pay 5 Euros to enter there. If you want to buy a book by all means go there , and get 5 Euros off the price of a book. The doorman was.... more »
not sure I liked this, apparently Google said it was "relatively quiet" but still fairly busy, no queue to get in but once inside you constantly feel you're in the way of someone's photo... more »
A beautiful bookstore with books in a variety of languages, Livraria Lello was truly a fantastic place to see. We waited about 20 minutes to enter the store, which was not too bad. The wall to wall crowds, however, make it hard to browse and choose books to purchase. It is worth visiting to see the architecture and decor, but if you are just looking to browse books, you'd likely be better off in a different bookstore.
The place was amazing. It's better to buy tickets online as the queue will be very long and you have to buy the ticket at a different shop and we have to queue for the entry as well. While buying online there will be option of fast track and normal. If you have a normal ticket you will have to stand in the normal queue. But if you buy any book in the store you will get a discount of the normal ticket price. It will be so difficult to take a picture of the stairs with so much crowd and you will need a lot of patience and have to wait to take a proper picture as the stairs is the main attraction of the shop.
