Bijarim Forest, Jeju

#5 of 14 in Nature in Jeju
At 800 years old and reaching 25 m (82 ft), the world's oldest nutmeg tree--“Ancestor tree of the Bija trees”--grows in the green oasis of Bijarim Forest. The evergreen forest contains around 2800 nutmeg trees between 500-800 years old, with their nutmeg known for its beneficial effect on the immune system. Walk around the picturesque pathways and breathe the fresh air, or sit on the park's benches and large rocks, enjoying the vista of rich treetops spreading like spider's webs. Feel the soothing ambiance and energizing power of the beautiful forest. • I walked away on a rainy day when there was no one. The room was clean and comfortable. In fact, it's not a place to play with children because it feels like thick trees and forest trails, but it's a good place to take a small walk.

  • It's a great place to stay. The air is good, and walking through the forest-filled streets is a healing place. The owner's coffee at the convenience store in front of the ticket office is just a drink. We were able to finish the fun walk with a cup of iced coffee.

  • I really liked this forest because it's a nice, relaxing walk in a beautiful surrounding among trees that are hundreds of years old. It's very cheap admission (I think around 2,000 won for adults) and takes about an hour to an hour and a half to walk through. The total course is 3.2km if you walk the whole route. It's a very easy walk, but some parts are loose rocks, so wear appropriate foot wear.
  • This was one of the highlights of our Jeju visit. Lots of greenery and you could feel the fresh air in your lungs. Admittedly the walk isn't that long (maybe an hour or so? We do like to walk at a steady pace) however it's a lovely atmosphere. We were behind a group of older Koreans following some sort of guide. It looked like they would be stopping at a number of trees on the route which might be interesting to some however they were nice enough to insist we bypass as they would be taking their time.
