Hallasan is a shield volcano on Jeju Island of South Korea. It is the highest mountain in South Korea. The area around the mountain is a designated national park, the Hallasan National Park (Hallasan Gungnip Gongwon/한라산국립공원/漢拏山國立公園). Hallasan is commonly considered to be one of the three main mountains of South Korea, along with Jirisan and Seoraksan.NamesMount Hallasan is the highest mountain in South Korea and is worshiped by people because they think that gods and spirits live on it. Alternate English names for the mountain include Hanla Mountain or Mount Halla and older English sources refer to the peak as Mount Auckland. Hallasan is written in North Korea in Chosungul as if it were Hannasan (한나산); however, it is still pronounced as Hallasan. In the past, Hallasan has been known by numerous other names in Korean including Buak (부악/釜岳), Wonsan (원산/圓山), Jinsan (진산/鎭山), Seonsan (선산/仙山), Dumuak (두무악/頭無岳), Burasan (부라산/浮羅山), Yeongjusan 영주산(瀛州山), and Hyeolmangbong (혈망봉/穴望峯). Every name of Hallasan has meanings and legends.HallasanHan represents the universe, and la means "pull". Both words mean that the mountain is high enough to pull the universe. According to the old legend, if anyone were to climb up the mountain, see a star and call out 노인성, they could live a longer life.Make your Jeju itinerary with Inspirock to find out what to see and where to go.

Attention: do not arrive by car much later, the parking lot is already full, parking at the roadside is possible, but at this time already very crowded! The ascent, especially the stairs at the end, is quite strenuous but with simple condition dosable without any problems... in case of doubt, a few more breaks. We used 3:40 hrs in a quiet step... only with short breaks. Note: the eastern route is the simpler, hence here the main part of the hikers. You are very often overtaken... on narrow paths, so that you usually have to/should pass by (but all are polite and thank you for passing!). The information from the Internet about music from the mobile phone, which a few hikers hear loudly, is correct... with us there were not so many... but we found it annoying! The descent was for us the northern tour, announced as shorter and steeper! There are only a few hikers on the way. Otherwise, this route is VERY nice with great views and fantastic nature! but.... the track is the hammer! steep... Well, it goes... but... largely scree paths with large rocks... every step wants to be chosen!!! And that to the very end... 8.9 km in total with just over 1,200 meters of altitude. We needed 4 hrs for the descent!! The ascent was easy... the descent is a real challenge!!!! In turn, condition, concentration, knees and other ligaments say goodbye, which are more than strained during the descent... and... stop is not possible... one MUST continue. The last 2 km were the longest kilometers of our lives! We did it... but the end was fierce! Surely the east tour back then easier... albeit with the crowd! Attention: the entrance/exit of the north tour has no bus connection... but taxi that either stand opposite the parking lot or pass the road (just wave!). It's a really great experience!!!!
I took bus 281 from Jeju Intercity Bus Terminal at 6.24am and get off at Seongpanak stop. Start hiking at 7.30am. It took me about 4 hours to reach the top. It was hot at top. I brought 1 liter of wat... more »
One of the most breathtaking moment in South Korea. It is far beyond description. If you want to walk on the cloud and see the splendid scenery, it is highly recommended.
Super nice nature with fresh air and nice straight bus connection. You can choose the path difficulty and then enjoy the view. The easiest path is damn crowdy though
