Seongsan Ilchulbong, Seogwipo

4.6
Rising from the ocean like a rocky crown, the World Heritage Site of Seongsan Ilchulbong stands as a testament to the region's ancient volcanic activity. Formed nearly 5,000 years ago by an eruption, the formation, known as a "tuff cone," features sheer walls with a depressed center. Hike your way up to the top of the raised crater, which stands 180 m (591 ft) high and has a diameter of nearly 600 m (1,969 ft), and look out over the rugged interior. You'll also get to enjoy sweeping views of the surrounding ocean and coastline from the rim. • Absolutely beautiful place. It is different from any regular hike due to the volcanic mountain shape. Park your car at the parking lot at the bottom, the hike from there to the top is 30 min up and 30 down. It is an easy hike were I have seen many children and elderly people do it with ease. Entrance fee is 2,000 per adult which is totally worth it.
  • It is an amazing natural place to visit. It is worth to go before the sunset, it is not so crowded and the views are beautiful. I would advise for you to go comfortable and ready to climb many stairs, at the beginning it can seem long and tough but in the end all the exercise is worth it. If you went without having breakfast, don't worry there are several cafeterias options before the entrance to the park.
  • Definitely worth a visit. It takes about 30 minutes to walk to the top. From the top you can have a nice view of the town below. At the bottom there is a place where you can have fresh seafood but the price is quite expensive compared to the local markets. Speed boat riding is also available there. Personally I think Seongsan Ilchulbong looks the best from the side.
  • Lovely crater-hill to hike in the morning. Its a UNESCO site so its a must visit if you're in Jeju. Target to get here by 9am to start the hike and you will have enough good light by the time you hit the summit. Trek down to the cliff and shores if you have ample time. Toilets are available. Free parking is at the foot of the hill, near the cafes and Dunkin Donuts.
  • Went here last winter and it's one of the places you shouldn't missed. It's very cold going up the peak but its actually an advantage because you won't get exhausted right away - no sweat, literally. After your hike, take a mouthful gulp of their locally made tangerine juice. The number of visitors here can be overwhelming so choose the date wisely.
