Myeong-dong Cathedral, Seoul

4.3
Besides serving as the seat of Seoul's archbishop, Myeong-dong Cathedral remains the symbol of Catholicism in South Korea. Completed in 1898, the imposing structure is dedicated to Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, regarded as the patron saint of the Korean nation. Admire the towering brick building, a prominent example of the Gothic Revival style, or step inside to admire the lavishly decorated walls and stained glass windows of the interior. You can take part in mass, in English, every weekend. Plan a Seoul trip in moments using our itinerary builder.

  • Here lies history from centuries to far more recent. It's a reverent retrieve from the hustle and bustle just outside.  more »
  • The view was really pretty at night while we were there as the the church was lighted up and the surroundings were illuminated with a field of LED roses. The church is located beside the myeongdong.....  more »

  • One of the oldest Catholic Churches in Korea. I was surprised to see so many people attend the daily morning mass. Even though the mass was in Korean I felt very much at home. Nice please to visit to just pray and meditate.
  • I noticed truly devoted parishioners and pilgrims. They seem like they live their faith to the scriptures. Parishioners and visitors seem they go with faith and hope and when they come from the church, they look like transformed in a very positive way. They both seem faithfully committed. The place is simple but it makes it majestical. Bus and train accessible. Lots of stairs for the one who come by the front. Wheelchair accessible by the side of church. Small Chapelle on the basement. The best part is that Jesus Christ is present if you listen carefully with your heart 💓. Point yourself towards the Altar. English language Mass on Sundays. Nuns and priests are welcoming. Confession in English available every day.
