Initially used as the Korean army headquarters, The War Memorial of Korea today serves to memorialize the nation's military history. Established in 1993, the building contains six indoor exhibition halls and one outdoor center, which displays more than 13,000 military items and war memorabilia. With the purpose to educate future generations by collecting, preserving, and showcasing historical records and relics, the museum has become one of the most prominent touristic landmarks of its kind in the world. Explore the halls divided into different themes, such as the Korean War, war history, and large equipment room, among others. Some special exhibitions require purchasing a ticket. The War Memorial of Korea Reviews
A total look at Korea at war from early time through Japanese imperial invasions to present day. Well worth the visit. more »
As war museums go this was all the encompassing for the Korean Peninsula. Korean friends back home stressed that we must see this. Well, there is a fair bit of jingoism here and I can see why Koreans ... more »
Great place to understand Korean history, will definitely take at least a whole day to complete. Best if you already have some prior knowledge about ancient Korea and the Korean War, if not go watch a few Korean period dramas and read your kid's secondary school history textbook or you may find yourself either browsing through everything not knowing what is going on, or spending an entire day on half the museum. The monuments outside are pretty interesting as well and there is a collection of military vehicles at the side similar to the Vietnam War museum.
A great museum on the history of warfare as seen through the Korean lens. Start on the first floor and work your way up. Loads of material on the Korean War specifically but plenty of information on other periods. Their static displays outside are excellent and one of the few where you can touch and crawl around in a few vehicles. There are some areas that are still being developed. Best of all it's free.
