Shifen Waterfall, New Taipei

#3 of 122 in Parks in New Taipei
Waterfall · Hidden Gem · Nature / Park
Observe nature at its best at Shifen Waterfall. Surrounded by the thick forest, you can witness the power of water as it falls from the tall rocks into the green pool below. You'll have the chance to light a paper lantern and send it out into the sky--with a wish--watch as it flies over the waterfall. Wear footwear with good grip, as the path can get pretty wet around this spot. Take a break at the visitor center, where you can enjoy a meal or some liquid refreshment. Our New Taipei journey maker website makes visiting Shifen Waterfall and other New Taipei attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • This area is worth the visit. The waterfall is nice but not as big nor pretty as some of the other waterfalls I've seen around. However, that being said it's definitely worth the visit because Shifen....  more »
  • Shifen is not too far from Taipei and you can spend 2-3 hours with plenty of things to do and spots to take awesome photos. You cross 2 suspension bridges and some statue fixtures to see this gorgeous waterfall. Next to the waterfall is plenty of traditional Taiwanese eats and comfortable places to sit and relax. Also close by is a town where you can paint lanterns for very cheap prices. I myself painted new year wishes before letting it fly into the sky. Can recommend for individual or group trip!
  • Beautiful waterfall — first-timers to Taipei should definitely not miss this! There’s cafes and small food stalls en route to this lovely view so no worries that you’ll be hungry. It’s also a little out of the way from the main Taipei area, so I would recommend following a local tour that can at least bring you to the place and back!
