Yeh Liu Geo Park, Wanli

4.3
#1 of 89 in Parks in New Taipei
Stretching some 1,700 m (5,577 ft) into the ocean, Yeh Liu Geo Park serves as a natural exhibition area for some of the strangest tent rock formations in the world. Dotted with hoodoo stones, the promontory offers fantastic views of the distinctive geological formations created in Miocene, which pushed the Dalian Mountains out of the sea. Marvel at the rocky Queen’s Head, the rock resembling a profile of Elizabeth II Queen of England, then check out Sea Candles, Fairy’s Shoe, or Ginger Rock. You can have fun concocting your own name for some of the shapes while walking through a forest of tall mushroom-shaped rocks. This bizarre Martian-like landscape can be reached by bus 90 minutes from West Taipei station. • Tourist destination offers a half-day from Taipei suburbs are 9 minutes, 10 minutes, but is so far enjoying the natural scenery here wild Willow scenic area. Has become a scenic coastal rocks carved by wind and waves, almost like mushrooms growing. From Taipei by bus per hour, and frequently, so guests can easily. I think one year Rocky thin is, sees that the Queen's head rock is famous.

  • The good: nicely preserved, good service and amenities. The “bad”: it’s small, easily crowded. Tip: There are excellent seafood restaurants nearby where you can enjoy a good lunch/dinner. Avoid weeken...  more »

  • Breathtaking view of the sea coast and fantastic rock formations. We visited May 2018 and so the place was quite hot. Better to come prepared - with sunblock, hat, and/or umbrella. Place was also crowded. Safety of the tourists is a priority of the park as there are lots of warning, e.g. do not cross lines, do not enter and security personnel. There was also a small restaurant inside the park offering mango shaved ice drink, which is a great pair for hot weather.
  • This should be one of the Wonders of the World as it's visually stunning and absolutely worth spending an entire afternoon to walk the path. The rock formations that have been created by sand and waves are as photogenic as the ocean backgrounds. And the nicely paved path is easy and accessible to people of all abilities. Plus, there's a little tea and smoothie shop for a mid walk snack. If you're planning a trip to Taipei - or living there - the geopark is definitely a must see.
  • It's a national park with stones in unusual shapes. I liked how the place was away from the cities and presents an alternative sightseeing spot, but other than that, most of the exhibits require you to use a LOT of imagination. Such as, they named a hollow stone with beehive like holes on one side as "cute princess". The place has only 2 washrooms, so use them when you see them. It was hot when I visited and I was looking for ice cream but it was not sold there, haha
  • Everything is in easy walking distance. It can get very hot under the sunshine so prepare a big hat or umbrella, but hold on tight during any cooling sea breeze. You may have to queue up to get pictures with some special vistas; need to have patience with the tour groups and line-jumpers.
  • Relatively small park on the seaside with some interesting geological features. Unfortunately the park isn't really readily handling the current-day flow of tourists, many of whom don't respect the sparse signage that does exist. For a nature reserve to allow people to walk directly on features seems a bit strange. Overall though a bit lacking, it's pleasant enough and there's an interesting 30 minute hike up the cliff on the seaside if you're into that.
