Presidential Office Building, Zhongzheng District

#33 of 734 in Things to do in Taipei
Architecture lovers and politics buffs will enjoy seeing Presidential Office Building--the tallest structure in Taiwan at the time of its construction. Completed in 1919, the building initially acted as the seat of the colonial government. After damage sustained in World War II bombings, Chen Yi restored the edifice to its former glory and it later became the presidential office in 1950. Though the structure faces east, giving it excellent views of Shishou Mountain, visitors can only view it from outside. Stop by to admire the historic building and snap a few photos. • Due to the trouble of the airplane, I couldn't make it to the event on the day of the National Day, and the next day, I wanted to taste the atmosphere alone. I've been to some tourist spots in the area, but this is my first time here. The previous day's event was well cleaned up, but the decoration of the national flag remained and I was able to take a picture. Later, I learned that the shooting here is very strictly restricted. Please be careful if you visit.

  • The Presidential Office is architecturally beautiful. It is also quite amazing. But, we are only allowed to take pictures on the opposite side of the road.
  • Historic place in the center of Taipei. This is where the President of Taiwan works and other important political entities. Guided tours are being held everyday from 9am-11.30am. They have tour guides who can speak English, Chinese, and Japanese. The tour focuses on the architecture of the building itself (since it's quite historic) and other Presidential artifacts. There are special exhibitions also.
