Admire the grand and evocative design of Temple Of Dawn (Wat Arun), a towering Buddhist temple located in the heart of Bangkok. Established in the 1600s--but gaining its distinctive porcelain-clad prangs (spires) during the reign of King Rama II in the early 19th century--the temple represents an apex of religious architecture and is one of the best maintained of all buildings commissioned by the Thai monarchy. Open to the public as a place of worship and tourism, the site contains prized artifacts relating to the religious and royal history of Thailand. Temple Of Dawn (Wat Arun) reviews
100BAHT to visit, you must be respectfully dressed. The temple is amazing and has so much history to tell. Whilst it can be very high to climb those steps, take your time and wear comfortable shoes..... more »
This is one of the most visited temples located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya river. To reach this landmark, you have to take a cross river boat ride from Tha Tian Express Boat Pier to Wat Arun.... more »
With entrance fee just costing about 50 baht, Wat Arun is definitely a must-visit temple in Thailand! The architecture is just plain amazing. You'll definitely enjoy the magnificent view so feel free to take pictures here and there. The stairs can be pretty steep though so be careful, especially if you're travelling with the elderly and young children. And since it's a religious place, one must wear the proper attire—this means no shorts and sleeveless tops allowed. Just be aware and respectful then you're all good!
This temple is considered to be the most famous and photographed temple in Bangkok, which features a soaring 70-meter-high spire decorated with tiny pieces of colored glass and Chinese porcelain. The gold color with many inlay colors and the soaring central tower and the four corners of towers makes for quite a site. The entire temple is covered in decoration--much of it floral--made using mainly ordinary household objects of boldly decorated porcelain. With no glitz nor dazzling golden adornments, the Temple of Dawn distinguishes itself with its tall elegant structures, and pastel tones. The steps can be pretty steep, and the sun reflects brightly off the white and brightly painted glazed walls of the temple. It only costs 50 baht to enter what is probably the most iconic Buddhist temple in Bangkok, 250 years old and still in excellent condition. A must see, and approach from the river, if you can!
