Wat Si Suphan, Chiang Mai

#7 of 68 in Historic Sites in Chiang Mai
Religious Site · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Take a spiritual trip to Wat Si Suphan, a temple built in 1502 entirely covered in silver, inside and out. Today, only the boundary markers remain of the original structure, and the reconstruction has been covered in silver tiles and panels. Look for artwork on the panels depicting spiritual themes, including scenes from Buddha's lives. Stop by the silversmith school on site, and check the schedule ahead of time for "monk chat" times, when you can talk to a monk. • The silver temple is beautiful! But only men can go inside, which is so unfortunate, but oh well. Go around sunset when the light gleams of the temple!  more »
  • Area surrounding of this silver temple are silversmiths, they were there for generations. Stunning works of silver decorated and covered all over the temple. A must visit place when you are in...  more »
  • This little gem is found just out side the moat. Not well signposted but easy enough to find your way to. On the temple grounds you can find an interesting silver workshop, and of course the silver temple. A small entrance fee later (with a complimentary bottle of water) and you can also go into the silver pagoda (unless you are a woman...). Very intricate and detailed work both inside and outside makes it well worth seeing. Every little space has been decorated with just about everything under the sun. You really shouldn't miss it if you visit Chiang Mai.
  • Today we went to all the temple's in Chiang Mai. In one word just beautiful but you've to see them for your self. The best one was for sure Wat Chedi Luang. Only at this you've to pay 40 bath entry fee when most of them are free. Still worth it though. In some of temple's women are not allowed to go inside like in the Silver temple but still you can watch from the outside. The surroundings are also very beautiful.
