Explore the uninhabited island of Ko Phi Phi Le, characterized by rugged limestone cliffs, exotic plant life, and impressive sandy beaches. The island looks so paradisal that it served as the setting for the movie "The Beach" (2000). The marine environment surrounding the island draws divers in ever-increasing numbers, with an abundance of colorful fish and jagged coral ideal for underwater photography. Rent a private boat or take a tour of the island so as to enjoy the expert commentary from one of the local guides. • Perfect destination if you are in Thailand. You can rent a long tail boat and go explore all the islands in the area and all the bays, beaches and lagoons. You can get here by ferry from Phuket or Krabi. You can buy return tickets from the island and they are cheaper that in the airport. I recommend to stay there for at least 4 nights. It's way better that taking a 1 day trip from Phuket and you have so many things to do.
  • Firstly it's Phi Phi Leh (not Lee!) pronounced "pee pee lay" if you're interested. It's a beautiful place with excellent diving away from the tourist bays. It went downhill from around 2006 when I first visited, back then there was brilliant snorkeling even in Phi Leh Bay (aka Blue Lagoon) whereas now there is nothing there and you'd probably be killed anyway if you tried due to the scandalous amount of boat traffic. The authorities have closed Maya Bay (aka The Beach) since last year (2018) thankfully so maybe that bay will now recover its ecosystem. Best advice I can give is to hire a long-tail boat from Phi Phi Don and visit this island early morning before the crowds arrive. Also a good place to learn to scuba dive if you plan on doing that, good chance of seeing turtles and almost guaranteed to see reef sharks and blue spotted rays.
