Khorat
As the largest province in Thailand, Nakhon Ratchasima (better known as Khorat) holds a smorgasbord of attractions. Often considered the gateway to Thailand's northeast, the province sits at the western end of the Khorat Plateau, one foot in the densely forested mountains of the Sankamphaeng Range. Two national parks in the mountains draw a great deal of tourism to Nakhon Ratchasima Province with their lush jungle, astonishing array of wildlife, and spectacular waterfalls. Next on the list of things to do in Khorat come its ancient ruins: remnants of erstwhile civilizations, including the Dvaravati, Khmer, and Angkorian empires. At Pak Thong Chai, the heart of Thailand's silk industry, fashion lovers can lose themselves among the clothing shops. While silk is Khorat's best-known craft, the region's pottery traditions stretch back many centuries as well. Khorat noodles appear on menus all across the region, while Chinese and fermented sausages and minced pork all feature prominently in local cuisine. As a big agricultural producer, the province also sells a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables.
