Monument de l'Independance, Lome

#1 of 28 in Things to do in Togo
Monument · Landmark
Admire the stone monument marking the nation's independence from France at Monument de l'Independance. Located on a vast open square with palm trees, fountains, well-kept lawns, and promenades, the 1960 landmark represents an intricately carved human silhouette within a grand stone block. Black fences close it off most of the time, so you'll need to carefully plan your arrival for a closer look at its contemporary features and details. Should you fail to make it on time, you can still enjoy the urban ambience and do some people-watching on the plaza across the street. Plan your visit to Monument de l'Independance and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Lome trip planner.

  • After Enquiry great about entry we had the access upon paying 500 cfa. The place is very neat but apart from the pictures taken, no one was there to take us through the history.  more »
  • National monument, closed to the public (maybe because it was Sunday). Some kids lay around there on skateboards. And that s about it.  more »
  • A place you can sit out and catch a glimpse of the monument and other beautiful area
  • Very nice to take pictures. It is not a museum but worth while the détour, as it is in the old Town of Lomé.
