The capital of Tonga and the seat of the island nation's royal family, Nuku'alofa was first seen by Western eyes in 1777, when legendary Captain James Cook arrived in the area.
Go for a jaunt from Nuku'alofa to Haveluliku to see Anahulu Cave - The Underground Swimming Pool about 34 minutes away. There's much more to do: kick back and relax at Mapu'a 'a Vaea Blowholes, contemplate the long history of Captain Cook's Landing Place, explore and take pictures at Royal Tombs, and stroll through Ha'atafu Beach.
