A gateway to the island, Hakodate has gained a reputation for its waterfront attractions, its proximity to some of the island's most popular natural sites, and its seafood.
Discover out-of-the-way places like Onuma Park Walking Path and Motomachi Catholic Church. Get a sense of the local culture at Hakodate Orthodox Church and Motomachi. Change things up with a short trip to Trappist Monasteries in Hokuto (about 42 minutes away). There's still lots to do: test the waters at a local thermal spa, contemplate the long history of Goryokaku Park, take in the architecture and atmosphere at St.John's Church Hakodate, and enjoy breathtaking views from Goryokaku Tower.
