The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Your inner history buff will appreciate Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Nijo Castle. Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Sanjusangendo Temple are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Next up on the itinerary: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kodai-ji Temple and take a stroll through Gion.

Pune, India to Kyoto is an approximately 16.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of car and ferry. The time zone difference when traveling from Pune to Kyoto is 3.5 hours. In December, daytime highs in Kyoto are 13°C, while nighttime lows are 4°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 28th (Mon) early enough to go by car to Ise.

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
On the 30th (Wed), kick back and relax at Aragusuku Beach, enjoy the sand and surf at Toguchi no Hama, then take in the views from Irabu Ohashi, and finally enjoy the sand and surf at Sunayama Beach.

You can do a combination of train and flight from Ise to Miyakojima in 7 hours. While traveling from Ise, expect much warmer days and a bit warmer nights in Miyakojima, ranging from highs of 25°C to lows of 20°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 30th (Wed) so you can catch the ferry to Iriomote-jima.

Kick off your visit on the 2nd (Sat): head into the lower depths with Prime Scuba Ishigaki Diving Center - Day Tour and then Head underground at Ishigaki Island Limestone Cave. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: head outdoors with Yonehara Beach, take in panoramic vistas at Tamatorizaki Observatory, then visit a coastal fixture at Cape Hirakubozaki, and finally stroll around Banna Park.

Getting from Iriomote-jima to Ishigaki by ferry takes about 1.5 hours. In January in Ishigaki, expect temperatures between 24°C during the day and 19°C at night. On the 4th (Mon), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel back home.
