A global center of finance and transportation, Frankfurt is perhaps best known for its futuristic cityscape.
Kick off your visit on the 4th (Fri): admire the local landmark of Fountain of Justice, admire the striking features of Cathedral of St. Bartholomew (Dom St. Bartholomaus), admire the landmark architecture of Haus Wertheym, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Old Nicholas Church (Alte Nikolaikirche), then explore the world behind art at Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Dreikonigskirche. You might consider the city of Budapest, divided by the Danube River into two distinctive cities--Buda and Pest--to be essentially one large World Heritage Site.
Explore hidden gems such as Liberty Statue and Margaret Island. Halaszbastya and St. Stephen's Basilica (Szent Istvan Bazilika) will appeal to history buffs. Step out of Budapest with an excursion to Esztergom Basilica / Cathedral in Esztergom--about 1h 10 min away.
