Situated in the center of the island, Furano has become known for its idyllic rural landscape, and the drastic changes it experiences as seasons shift.
Kick off your visit on the 28th (Sat): look for gifts at Furano Marche. Keep things going the next day: wander the streets of HOA Hokkaido Outdoor Adventures, play a few rounds at Hoshino Resort Tomamu, and then learn about winemaking at Furano Budogaoka Park.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Furano is an approximately 14-hour flight. You can also drive. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 1 hour traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Furano. Expect little chillier temperatures when traveling from Kuala Lumpur in July; daily highs in Furano reach 30°C and lows reach 21°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 30th (Mon) so you can drive to Otaru.

The port city of Otaru has long attracted domestic visitors, drawn in by the city's many historic buildings, and has started to garner international attention, too.
On the 31st (Tue), take in the architecture and atmosphere at Tomioka Catholic Church, then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt.Tengu, then brush up on your knowledge of spirits at Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery, and finally head off the coast to Candle Rock. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 1st (Wed): steep yourself in history at Former Otaru Warehouse, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Suitengu, and then look for gifts at Otaru Orgel Museum Main Building.

You can drive from Furano to Otaru in 2.5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of bus and train; or take a train. While traveling from Furano, expect slightly colder days and about the same nights in Otaru, ranging from highs of 26°C to lows of 24°C. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 1st (Wed) to allow time for the car ride to Sapporo.

A modern, bustling city known for its beer brewery, Sapporo attracts millions of visitors with its Snow Festival, during which elaborate ice and snow sculptures are exhibited all over town.
Kick off your visit on the 1st (Wed): get a sense of history and politics at Former Hokkaido Government Office Building and then step into the grandiose world of Hokkaido Jingu. Keep things going the next day: make a trip to Clock Tower (Tokei-dai), then wander the streets of Susukino, and then hit the slopes at Takino Suzuran Hillside National Park.

Getting from Otaru to Sapporo by car takes about an hour. Other options: take a train. August in Sapporo sees daily highs of 27°C and lows of 25°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 4th (Sat) to allow time to drive to Biei-cho.

Famous for scenic views of vast fields, wide meadows, and gently rolling hills against the backdrop of the Taisetsu mountain range, Biei-cho offers a picture-prefect setting for a pleasant countryside vacation.
Start off your visit on the 4th (Sat): contemplate the waterfront views at Taisetsu Asahidake Gensui, indulge in Japan's hot spring tradition at some of the top local onsens, and then contemplate the waterfront views at Daisetsu Kogen Swamp. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 5th (Sun): identify plant and animal life at Yukomanbetsu Swamp, then explore the activities along Sugatami no Ike Lake, and then work some fitness into your day at Asahidake Natural Hiking Route.

Traveling by car from Sapporo to Biei-cho takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. Plan for slightly colder nights when traveling from Sapporo in August since evenings lows in Biei-cho dip to 20°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 5th (Sun) so you can drive to Noboribetsu.

Perhaps the island's best-known hot spring resort, Noboribetsu has a long history of tourism.
Start off your visit on the 6th (Mon): identify plant and animal life at Noboribetsu Bear Park, then take in the natural beauty of Taisho Jigoku, and then trek along Orofure Pass.
