Queensland’s biggest town and state capital, Brisbane has an attractive, manicured image based around its riverside aesthetic as well as the contrast between its high-rise center and extensive urban greenery.
Kids will enjoy South Bank Parklands and Roma Street Parkland. Venture out of the city with trips to Mooloolaba (SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast & Mooloolaba Beach), Big Kart Track (in Landsborough) and Australia Zoo (in Beerwah). There's still lots to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Nepalese Pagoda, get in on the family fun at Channel Seven Wheel of Brisbane, and make a splash at Thrill Hill Waterslide.

Sydney to Brisbane is an approximately 4-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a train. Expect a daytime high around 28°C in September, and nighttime lows around 15°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 25th (Fri) to allow time to travel to Launceston.

Lying in the Tamar Valley and surrounded by forested hills, the grid-patterned city of Launceston boasts shaded avenues, vibrant street life, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Kids will enjoy Cataract Gorge Reserve and The Tamar Valley. Change things up with these side-trips from Launceston: Twelve Acre Wood (in Claude Road), Tasmazia & The Village of Lower Crackpot (in Promised Land) and Deloraine Creative Studios (in Deloraine).
