Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Your inner history buff will appreciate Senso-ji Temple and Kōtoku-in. For shopping fun, head to Ginza or TOKYO Samurai Kembu. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Tokyo: The Hakone Open-Air Museum (in Hakone-machi), Yokohama Chinatown (in Naka) and Kamakura (Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Kannon Museum, & more). Museum-lovers will appreciate Gyeongbokgung Palace and National Museum of Korea. Shop till you drop at Myeongdong Shopping Street and Creative Life Store KEY. Go for a jaunt from Seoul to Suwon to see Hwaseong Fortress about 1h 10 min away. The adventure continues: wander the streets of Insadong, appreciate the extensive heritage of Cheonggyecheon Stream, admire the striking features of Changdeokgung Palace, and shop like a local with Namdaemun Market.

Traveling by flight from Tokyo to Seoul takes 6 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight and train; or do a combination of train and ferry. Expect a bit cooler temperatures when traveling from Tokyo in January; daily highs in Seoul reach 1°C and lows reach -7°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 7th (Tue) early enough to travel to Osaka.
